When I grew up going to Princess Hill (sp?) Secondary College, Lee Street and then later on Princess Hill, you felt an immediate affinity with the Greek community. I guess they have that same kind of emotional, unashamed kind of, hand-waving expression and we immediately hit it off and I remember that when I went to their homes, their life too, was centred around the kitchen, like our life was centred around the kitchen, the kitchen was where it was all happening, because life was built around food.

It was not in the living room, it was where the food was being made. And so, I – there – we – I found it very easy to mix with that sort of sensibility. And that’s how it’s been for me since then I think.
