Ethnic radio, as part of SBS, is a vital activity and more important for the individual needs of settlement, of the real social needs, probably than the television is.

CONTINUATION OF INTERVIEW AS TEXT

This network of now 60 languages - 55 when I left, 25 when we started - gave every community an opportunity to do what they needed within reasonable guidelines, which demanded local information, Australian information, encouraged English language teaching, and made quite sure that while they kept their culture going, this was not a geopolitical program. This was not a religious or anti-religious or anti-neighbour program.
