We do have a White Australian Policy since Federation. It's only, I think, twenty years since both governments agreed that we should not have a White Australia Policy, that our immigration policy should be based on a system where you choose the best people to come.

CONTINUATION OF INTERVIEW AS TEXT

In other words you don’t issue a visa on the basis that this person is a better person because of his colour, a better person for Australia because of his religion, a better person because he comes from a certain part of the world. It is only in the last twenty years that we have dismantled this White Australian Policy.
